6 Caribbean Carnival Parades happening in August

Summer is not only know for sun and fun but it is also a time when a number of Caribbean carnivals take place. Here are 6 carnival parades happening in August.

ONE: TORONTO

Today (August 3rd) is Carnival in the TO. Toronto Caribbean Carnival’s Grande Parade continues to attract local, regional, national, and international attentio n by visitors and media as it is the highlight of the three-week Festival. For more information visit https://torontocarnival.ca/

TWO: BARBADOS

The Crop Over Festival, celebrates a 200 year-old tradition that honors the end of the sugar cane season in Barbados.

Grand Kadooment Day takes place on August 5th. Masquerade Bands make their way to the Mighty Grynner Highway with revelers dressed in sequin costumes decorated with colorful feathers, jewels and bright accents; dancing behind music trucks and moving bars. THREE: ANTIGUA

Antigua gives you two days of parade celebrations. The colourful parade turns the streets of St. John’s, the capital of the island, to a giant show stage. FOUR: ANGUILLA

FIVE: GRENADA

Grenada Carnival ‘Spicemas’ is Grenadian expression in all its glory, climaxing during the second Monday and Tuesday in August (August 12th and 13th). It incorporates aspects of the island’s African, French, British and Caribbean heritage.

SIX: LONDON

Every summer London hosts one of the world’s largest street carnivals, Notting Hill Carnival. It is estimated that close to one million people attend this celebration of Caribbean heritage on the streets of Notting Hill. 2019 Notting Hill Carnival takes place Sunday 25th August to Monday August 26.
