Spring Garden Highway is now named after the Mighty Grynner

When revellers reach those last few meters on Kadooment Day they will be jumping on what was once the Spring Garden Highway but is now called The Mighty Grynner Highway.

Yesterday, at a stellar unveiling ceremony attended by the who’s who of the entertainment industry in Barbados and led by Prime Minister Mia Mottley, this infamous stretch of road was renamed after seven-time Road March King, MacDonald “The Mighty Grynner” Blenman.

Starting his competitive kaiso career in 1968, Grynner is the only calypsonian with two hat-tricks in the road march competition.

His list of Road March successes are as follows:

  1. Mr. T (1983)
  2. Stinging Bees (1984)
  3. More Grynner (1985)
  4. Wait For Me (1988)
  5. Leggo I Hand (1989)
  6. Get Out De Way (1990) and
  7. Grind Dem (1998).
